Hormones and metabolism

Root causes, treated by an endocrinologist.

Thyroid, insulin, cortisol and estrogen, read by a physician who looks past the standard panel.

Lab tubes and a report on the counter of a Qua exam room

Hormones can shape how you feel before a lab flags anything. Thyroid, insulin, cortisol, estrogen and testosterone act on one another, and when one drifts, the others often follow. A standard panel checks a handful of numbers. A Qua evaluation reads the ones that can shape how you feel.

Hormone care at Qua is medical care. Every plan begins with Dr. Abboud and her medical team, never a sales consult. She is board-certified in endocrinology, internal medicine and obesity medicine, with thirty years treating the hardest cases in hormones and weight. Normal is a range built from a whole population, and where you sit inside it matters.

Thyroid and Hashimoto's

The thyroid helps set the pace for much of the body. When it runs low, the signs can be easy to dismiss one at a time: tired by two in the afternoon, hair thinning, weight settling at the middle while the rest of you stays the same. Each has other causes too.

Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition and, in the US, one of the most common reasons a thyroid slows down. Thyroid antibodies can rise years before TSH leaves the normal range, so we check them, not just TSH. If treatment is needed, the plan follows your labs and symptoms, adjusted at monthly check-ins.

Insulin resistance and prediabetes

Insulin resistance often begins before blood sugar looks abnormal. The body needs more insulin to do the same job, and fasting glucose can stay in range while fasting insulin climbs.

Prediabetes can be the next stage: blood sugar above normal but below the line for diabetes. In our experience it is one of the most treatable findings, and catching it early may keep a diagnosis from arriving.

A plan starts with nutrition, activity and sleep built around your body composition. FDA-approved medication is one tool, used when it fits, with monthly follow-ups.

Cortisol and fatigue

Cortisol is the body's main stress hormone. For most people it peaks in the morning and falls through the day. When that rhythm is disturbed, people often describe heavy mornings, wired nights and afternoon cravings.

A single reading tells us little. A Qua evaluation looks at the rhythm across the day, alongside sleep and hunger hormones, so fatigue is read as a pattern rather than labeled stress.

Menopause and perimenopause

Perimenopause can begin years before periods stop, and the symptoms rarely arrive in a tidy order.

The same years often bring changes in thyroid, insulin and cortisol, so we test all of them rather than assume. For many women a plan may include hormone therapy; for others it does not. Dr. Abboud weighs your symptoms, labs and family history, and talks it through with you.

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Broken sleep
  • Mood changes and brain fog
  • Weight that no longer responds to what used to work

Hormone therapy and bone health

Hormone pellet therapy places small pellets under the skin that release hormone slowly, typically over several months. Whether pellets fit you is decided at the evaluation, never before.

Sermorelin is a peptide that prompts the pituitary to release the body's own growth hormone rather than supplying it directly. It is discussed only after labs, and only when Dr. Abboud sees a reason.

Bone health belongs in the conversation: estrogen, testosterone and thyroid can each affect bone. Osteoporosis often develops quietly, so a bone density scan may be ordered when your history calls for it, and a plan can include vitamin D, calcium, strength training and medication when it fits.

  • Perimenopause or menopause symptoms that disrupt sleep, mood or weight
  • Men who want a low testosterone evaluation

  2. A real evaluation

Labs, history, body composition, and a doctor who listens. Beyond the standard panel: fasting insulin, thyroid antibodies, cortisol rhythm, GLP-1 response, and sleep and hunger hormones.

  3. Your plan, and follow-ups

You leave with a plan and exact pricing, not a package. Monthly check-ins with Dr. Abboud adjust it as your labs and symptoms change.

We cannot say before we have met you. Dr. Abboud reviews your labs, symptoms and history, then explains the options, including whether pellets fit. In our experience, some patients need hormones and many need something else first.
